TRANSPORTATION MATTERS for IOWA

Roadside Chat - Old acquaintances don't forget to plan a sober ride

12-30 old acquaintancesIt’s the time of year for making plans. Whether you’re planning a social gathering, a family holiday celebration, or another festive occasion, the best hosts are the ones who plan to keep their guests safe.

Plan ahead if you are hosting or attending an event where you may be drinking. It’s easier than ever to find a sober ride.

  • As a host: arrange for a sober driver to get your guests home safely or offer a place to sleep off their holiday cheer.
  • As a guest:
    • You can’t drive impaired if you don’t bring your vehicle. Use a cab or a ride-sharing service to get home safely.
    • Attend with a family member, friend, or colleague, and plan for one of you to be the sober driver. Do you see signs that the designated driver is drinking? Take a cab or ride-sharing service home.
    • If available, consider public transportation.
