Planning ahead is the key to staying safe if you’re going to be drinking.
- If you’re going out with a group, decide ahead of time who will be the designated driver and support that person’s choice to stay sober.
- If you’ve been drinking and you have the option, use a taxi or rideshare to get where you need to go.
- If you’re at a party, check with the host to see if you can just stay put and not get behind the wheel.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, every day about 32 people in the United States die in drunk-driving crashes. That’s one person every 45 minutes. In 2020, 11,644 people died in crashes where alcohol impaired the judgment of a driver. All these deaths were preventable.
