Roadside Chat - Watch your speed. Your car is not a bobsled.

If you are a sports fan, chances are you will tune in to one or more events in the 2022 Winter Olympics from Beijing, China. In many of those events, the most aggressive and quickest competitor to the finish line wins.
That’s not the case on the highway. Your goal on the road is to make it to your destination safely. If someone sharing the road is speeding or driving aggressively, here are a few tips from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety so you don’t end up in an unnecessary and dangerous competition.
- Avoid cutting the speeder off. When you merge make sure you leave plenty of space and signal your intentions before merging.
- Stay in the right lane on the interstate or freeway. Driving the speed limit in the left lane of a multi-lane highway is perfectly legal, but aggressive drivers often see this as the “fast” lane and will be agitated at left lane drivers who are obeying the speed limit.
- Stay off the tail of an aggressive driver. Drivers can get angry if you follow too closely.
If you do encounter an aggressive driver:
- Don’t engage. One angry driver can’t start a fight unless another driver is willing to join in.
- Steer clear. Give angry drivers lots of room.
- Forget winning. Remember, this isn’t a competition.
