Roadside Chat - For flashing lights, do what's right. Move over.

10-22 flashing lightsDid you pass right by National Move Over Day? Last Friday some Americans paused to recognize the danger faced by our first responders and others who work alongside the road. But keeping our Iowa DOT road warriors safe takes more than just a day to remember to move over or slow down, so we’re keeping the “move over” momentum going all year long because these brave men and women need your assistance every day.

Drivers are often going faster than the speed limit and not paying complete attention to the task of driving or what is going on around them. That increases the danger for everyone who is on the road.

At the Iowa DOT, we have more than 1,000 field forces who hit the road each day to do the work that keeps you moving more safely. Whether that’s guardrail repair, mowing, snow removal, or any of the dozens of other jobs that need to get done, they are out there for you. Do your part to increase safety on the roads and watch out for them.
