Roadside Chat - Buckle Up Butter Cow
The Iowa State Fair is in full swing and Iowa’s highways are buzzing with traffic headed to Des Moines to see the famed Butter Cow or other last-minute trips before school starts.
One of the easiest and most effective safety measures you can take is to buckle your seat belt and make sure everyone in your vehicle is also appropriately bucked. Whether that’s the right size car seat for your toddler or making sure your teen isn’t tucking the shoulder belt behind his or her back, keeping everyone safe should be first on your “do list” as a driver.
If you aren’t sure your child is in the right seat, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has a great tool at https://www.nhtsa.gov/campaign/right-seat to calculate exactly what your child needs.
So far in 2021, there have been 187 deaths in traffic crashes. That is an increase of three since last Friday. To see statistics published daily by the Office of Driver Services, go to the daily fatality report at https://www.iowadot.gov/mvd/stats/daily.pdf
You can schedule an appointment at https://iowadot.gov/mvd/driverslicense/service-selector. If you need assistance, go to www.iowadot.gov and click on the red “chat” balloon. If you type in LIVE AGENT someone will help you. That service is available Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
