Message Monday - Major kudos to all the designated drivers
Hearing your name over a loudspeaker or on TV can be exciting, but sometimes the biggest heroes are the ones providing strong, quiet support outside of the fanfare. In football, the quarterback wouldn’t be able to do his job well without a solid offensive line. Yet, you’re much more apt to know the name of the winning quarterback than the left tackle. The same is true for a designated driver providing support for those who need a safe ride home.
A study of Super Bowl Sunday drunk driving crashes in Texas from 2014 to 2018 showed that:
- Crashes increased by 17.5 percent
- Fatalities increased by 18.42 percent
- Injuries increased by 13.12 percent
Hopefully, if you watched the big game yesterday, your team of friends and family had at least one of those support people making sure they safely got where they needed to go. Today we salute those heroes who choose to stay sober and support their “team.”
