Message Monday - Eyes up, Phone down

07/06/2020

7-6 eyes up phone downFocus on the road. When you’re behind the wheel, your only job is to keep your vehicle moving along safely. We know there’s a lot going on in the world right now and your phone may blow up at any moment with the latest social media alert, group chat, or other distractions.

Most cell phones have a “do not disturb” mode, either in your phone’s settings, apps you can download, or from your cellular service provider, that can be activated while driving. For many, this mode can be set to automatically kick in when your phone’s blue tooth is connected to your vehicle. For your own wellbeing and the safety of others on the road, use this technology to your advantage.

Parents, did you know there are apps out there that let you control your child’s phone? Some of them can actually disable the phone if your child is driving. https://www.consumersadvocate.org/parental-control-apps

For 2020, there have been 114 fatalities reported. That is an increase of six since last Monday. To see statistics published daily by the Office  of Driver Services, go to the daily fatality report at https://www.iowadot.gov/mvd/stats/daily.pdf
