Welcome back to Message Monday! With summer kicking into gear and more people getting out and about, we are seeing a significant uptick in speeding citations in Iowa, especially those drivers clocked at more than 25 miles per hour over the speed limit. The number of speeders ticketed for traveling 100+ mph has also gone up significantly.
The fact of the matter is that law enforcement is still out there doing their jobs and speeding, particularly excessive speeding, is never safe, no matter how much traffic is on the road. It decreases your reaction time and can be extremely dangerous if you come upon other traffic moving at a different speed than you are. As traffic continues to increase on the roads, drivers who are used to having an “open road” are going to need to be prepared to react to the actions of other drivers.
In addition, if you’re convicted of going more than 25 mph over the posted speed limit on any road In Iowa, you run the risk of losing your license. If you have been convicted of a speeding violation of 25 mph to 29 mph over the limit, you may have an opportunity to complete our driver improvement program in lieu of having your license suspended, but that’s not a guarantee.
Save yourself the time, expense, and hassle of working to restore your driving privilege by simply slowing down. Getting to your destination a few minutes sooner isn’t worth it.
