Message Monday- That's the temperature, not the speed limit
Don’t be a hothead this summer. When the mercury rises, tempers can get a little short, increasing the perceived need to get where you need to go more quickly than the speed limit would allow.
Summer traffic can bring out aggression in even the most mild-mannered driver. Here are a few tips on how to avoid aggressive driving behind the wheel:
- Keep your speed under control, especially in traffic
- Leave plenty of space between vehicles
- Stop at all red lights
- Signal if you intend to change lanes
- Be courteous to other drivers – don’t cut them off or block vehicles that want to pass
- If something angers you while you are behind the wheel, take a deep breath to calm down and don’t let it impact your driving.
If you’re traveling this summer, here’s a list of the cities with the most aggressive drivers – https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2019/03/12/most-aggressive-drivers-gasbuddy/3137818002/
For 2019, there have been 152 fatalities reported. That’s an increase of 10 since last Monday. The 2018 fatality count stands at 318. This is subject to change as law enforcement reports are completed. To see statistics published daily by the Office of Driver Services, go to the daily fatality report at https://www.iowadot.gov/mvd/stats/daily.pdf.
Put your makeup on before you leave home so a mortician won’t have to do it!
