Message Monday - Driving half lit is not very bright
What does it mean to be impaired? Maybe you’ve had a couple of drinks, but you don’t consider yourself to be drunk. Or you may have taken a drug (legal or otherwise) that makes you feel not quite yourself.
If you have to ask, “am I okay to drive?” You already have your answer.
While the legal blood alcohol limit in Iowa is .08, impairment can come at much lower levels and both legal and illegal drugs can cause impairment.
Every year, more than 30 percent of those killed on Iowa highways were involved in crashes with impaired drivers. That means more than 100 people would still be alive if they had simply given up the keys instead of driving while they were impaired.
If you feel different, you drive different. Be safe. Find a sober ride so we can all get where we need to go safely.
