10-2 message mondayIn Iowa, using your phone to do anything but talk or navigate is illegal. But that doesn’t mean those “legal” uses are safe.

There are three types of distractions behind the wheel:  visual: taking your eyes off the road; manual: taking your hands off the wheel; and cognitive: taking your mind off the road

Anything that takes one or more of these functions away from the task of driving can end in disaster.

Some people think time behind the wheel is wasted if they are simply driving. After all, there are phone calls to return, lunch to be eaten, and schedules to plan. But multitasking, especially while behind the wheel, is an illusion -
