Message Monday - Mayday! Mayday! Put the phone away

5-1 message mondayWhen is society going to have enough and send out the “Mayday” distress call for distracted drivers?

We have learned from experience that societal changes take time. For example, the federal law requiring seat belts in all new vehicles (except buses) was enacted in 1968, but the first state (New York) to implement requiring vehicle occupants to wear a seat belt didn’t take effect until 1984.

How long will it take for all of us to realize the danger that little phone we hold in our hands brings? Research shows the vast majority of people acknowledge distracted driving as dangerous when someone else is doing it, but these same people admit to texting, emailing, web surfing, or otherwise engaging with their phones while driving on a daily basis.
