Message Monday - Feb. 1, 2016 - Choices: Red or Blue? I'm belted, are you?
February 1, 2016
Many choices you make today seem simple and mundane; others may only occur once every four years. Some seemingly simple choices could have a longer lasting effect than others. For example, choosing how to behave when driving your car can have impacts that could follow you for the rest of your life.
Every time you get behind the wheel, you make several choices.
- If you’ve had a few drinks, should you really be getting behind the wheel?
- Are you going to buckle up? Will you require your passengers to buckle up?
- You’re on the road, but you’re in a hurry – are you going to push it over the speed limit to make up some time?
These are just a few of the many choices you make each day that seem mundane, but if you don’t choose correctly can change your life. Such is the case for Laura. One very small, seemingly insignificant choice has completely turned her world, and the lives of several others, upside-down. http://ia.zerofatalities.com/lauras-story-i-drove-distracted-and-a-man-died/
The fatality count of 21 is an increase of five from last Monday. To see statistics published daily by the Office of Driver Services, go to http://www.iowadot.gov/mvd/stats/daily.pdf
