TRANSPORTATION MATTERS for IOWA

Message Monday - Sept. 28, 2015 - Drinking, Driving, Colliding

9-28 message mondayThink about this for just a minute. Last year, 91 lives were lost on Iowa’s roads because of crashes with impaired drivers. This represents 28 percent of the 321 roadway fatalities in 2014. We could have decreased fatalities by nearly one-third if these drivers had simply handed over the keys to a sober friend or found another way to get where they were going.

Do your part to help reduce the number of deaths on Iowa highways. If you choose to drink, make another choice, too.  Designate a sober driver or arrange for a safe way to get where you need to go.

Today’s video is a combination of three separate public service announcements from around the world that should make you think about that drink, if you intend to drive.

The fatality count of 240 is an increase of seven from last Monday. To see statistics published daily by the Office of Driver Services, go to http://www.iowadot.gov/mvd/stats/daily.pdf.
