Each week we take questions from Facebook and Twitter and answer  three of them  on our blog. When you submit questions on Facebook or Twitter, use #Thurs3DOT to we make sure we get them. The Iowa Department of Transportation works to make getting from point A to point B easier, both logistically and on your wallet through a park and ride plan. Gear up for the 2015 Pine Car Derby

Our carsIf you have kids, you’ve probably done it. Parents everywhere build little wooden race cars for their kids to send down the track at youth events all the time.

Now is your chance to dig out the old cars or build new ones. And this time, the grown-ups get to race. For the second year in a row, Zero Fatalities Iowa is a co-sponsor of Lazer 103.3’s PineCar Derby. This is a great way to get the message of safe driving out to both kids and adults in a fun atmosphere.

Could little Manly, Iowa, really become a hub for freight shipment in the Upper Midwest?

August 3, 2015

RegionalMap_6_4_15Yes, it could happen. Manly, Iowa, population 1,323, could become a regional hub for intermodal freight shipments in the Upper Midwest. The Iowa Department of Transportation’s mission of “Getting you there safely, efficiently, and conveniently” extends far beyond your daily commute or vacation road trip. Expanding opportunities to move goods throughout the state and region using all modes of transportation will build a secure economic foundation for Iowa for generations.

Message Monday - Aug. 3, 2015 - Thank you Iowa! For not texting

August 3, 2015

8-3-message-mondayThis is our SHOUT OUT to all drivers in Iowa who did not text and drive today! THANK YOU!! You have made your day safer and everyone around you thanks you as well.

Today’s video has some good statistics and addresses common excuses why people still text and drive such as “It’s only for a split second.” or “I’m a great driver, I can multitask.” or “The text is really important.” If you believe any of these reasons, you’re delusional and need to watch this clip.
