Zero Fatalities Message Monday - Nov. 10, 2014

11-10-message-mondayGreat news came out last week on Iowa’s seat belt usage - 92.8 percent of drivers now buckle up. This is the highest percentage of seat belt use recorded in Iowa since the start of these surveys.

To those who use seat belts, buckling up is such a ‘no-brainer’ that we cannot fathom how anyone would not just automatically take 2 seconds to be safer. Yet 7 percent of Iowa drivers remain unbuckled. To this end, the phrase “You’re killing me Smalls” seems appropriate when trying to explain to them why they should buckle up.

If you know what we're talking about, skip down to the movie clip.

For those who have not seen the movie the Sandlot (1993), the phrase “You’re killing me Smalls” means… ‘to show extreme frustration towards someone’s ineptitude or cluelessness, sometimes both’. Such as finding someone that has no clue what a S’more is, or someone that does not use their seat belt.
