TRANSPORTATION MATTERS for IOWA

Zero Fatalities Message Monday - Sept. 22, 2014

9-22-message-mondayIt is difficult to know what other people are thinking. And trying to guess what the driver of another vehicle has on his or her mind is almost impossible unless they indicate their intentions.  Using a turn signal is not just a common courtesy it is required by law and could save you from a serious or even fatal crash.

Here is what Section 3 of the Iowa DOT Driver’s Manual says -

• Signal as early as you can. Try and signal at least three seconds before you make your move. You must signal at least 100 feet before a turn if the speed limit is 45 mph or less. If the speed limit is faster than 45 mph, you must signal at least 300 feet before you turn.

Here is a short clip of improper turn signal usage and a history lesson.   http://youtu.be/SHgkH1ouK7I
