Digital signatureFor the past few years the Iowa DOT has worked to utilize technology to be smarter, simpler, and customer driven. “I think we’re moving in the right direction,” said Wes Musgrove, director of the Office of Contracts. “We’re working toward a paperless process for highway projects from the initial design phase all the way through construction,” said Musgrove.

When you adjust the radio, mess with your phone, eat, or do anything other than drive, you put yourself, your passengers and everyone in the path of your vehicle in danger. 

Distracted driving crashes are 100 percent preventable. You simply have to focus on driving and put everything else aside.

Revamped 511 apps gives travelers and truckers traffic info on the go

511-BLUE_CATEGORY-AFor more than a decade travelers have depended on Iowa’s 511 system to provide the most current traffic information. A mobile app for iPhone and Android platforms was developed two years ago to supplement the desktop version and that app has recently been updated to provide easier access to information.

Motor Vehicle Officer Joe Nickell was recently named the 2014 Traffic Safety Officer of the Year Award from the Central Iowa Traffic Safety Task Force.

Nominations for the award come from the supervisors of the many law enforcement agencies tasked with policing central Iowa. Nickell was nominated by his supervisor, Captain Robert Johnson.
