CyRide driver places first and wins Rookie of the Year in national competition

An Ames CyRide bus driver, Nathan Shimanek, reached the top position in his first national bus driving competition by beating out 68 other competitors to win a first place award and to be honored as Rookie of the Year.

School’s out for summer. With the weather warming up, kids are taking to the streets on bicycles. Being kids, sometimes they don’t pay as much attention to traffic as they should. That’s where you as a driver come in. When you’re behind the wheel, remove all distractions and pay specific attention to the task of driving. It could save your life or that of a child.
Being careful behind the wheel isn’t limited to Iowa or even the United States. Watch this video from Russia where, luckily for these children, the driver of the car was not distracted and could stop in time.
