Zero Fatalities Message Monday - April 28, 2014
April 28, 2014
Already in April, four motorcyclists have lost their lives on Iowa highways. Motorcyclists are encouraged to “ride bright” to increase their visual presence on the road. It is up to the rest of us to be on the lookout for these men and women. The task of driving deserves your full attention. Driving distracted or drunk increases the chances that you will not see these smaller vehicles on the road.
In 2013, 13 percent of the 317 traffic fatalities last year were motorcyclists. That is 41 of our friends that did not make it home to their families.
This is an increase of 3 from last week.

Finding purpose in your work - a case study from the Ankeny Driver's license staff
April 1, 2014
Why do you come to work every day? Sure, we all get paid, but to keep coming back, there is probably a deeper purpose to your daily trip from home to work. Exploring that purpose was the point of a recent Lean Six Sigma exercise by the driver’s license staff team at the Ankeny driver’s license station. The Iowa DOT has been using Lean Six sigma process improvement tools for several years to improve the way we do what we do. There are several activities associated with the process improvement method. The Ankeny driver's license station team worked through the Paper Passing Purpose Tool (P3T), to determine a purpose statement.
